ACE Policy Platform: Building Opportunity and Trust in ECS

Our slate policy platform focuses on actionable policies designed to improve academic achievement alongside additional opportunities to grow and thrive in Eastpointe Community Schools.
Academics
We believe students should have a strong curriculum and active wrap-around support in district initiatives:
Lean into recently updated curriculum to continue achieving not only academic growth, but also increase the number of students scoring at or above grade level on standardized tests.
Ensure classroom instruction and supplemental educational opportunities like homework and field trips help students connect their coursework to the broader world outside our buildings
Regularly review data, and when needed, update curricular materials to ensure they are supporting student growth, including meeting or exceeding grade level requirements and expectations.
Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Every ECS student should have a pathway after graduation, whether that is going to college, pursuing a trade, joining the military, or entering the workforce:
Build upon our successful CTE Programs including Culinary Arts, Public Safety, and Marketing to increase post-ECS career opportunities after graduation.
Continue to seek out mutually beneficial CTE consortium partnerships, such as the district's connection to South Lake Schools. This allows ECS students access to SLS's Auto Shop Program, and SLS students access to our Culinary Arts and Public Safety Programs.
Expand opportunities to technology and advanced manufacturing career, including ECS' partnership with SME to bring a Mechatronics Program, as well as the district's dual enrollment partnership with Macomb Community College (MCC) in programs such as Welding.
Extracurriculars
Students deserve to have a well-rounded public education experience, including sports and clubs:
Support our burgeoning Athletics and Activites Department, including high school and middle school sports, as well as the ever-popular Little Shamrocks sports program at ECS' four elementary schools.
Expand access to clubs such as Student Assembly, National (Junior) Honor Society, Robotics, Drama, Art, and DECA.
Continue opportunities for students to travel to local and statewide athletic and club competitions to increase student's learning experience, as well as highlight the great work happening at ECS.
Why These Policies Matter
Eastpointe and South Warren’s diversity is a tremendous strength! It also requires thoughtful leadership to ensure all students have access to opportunities that meet their unique needs. The ACE Policy Focus addresses this by balancing innovation with fiscal responsibility, and by putting students at the center of it all. Our emphasis on relevant and achievement-focused curricula, CTE that connects to the real world, and extracurriculars that round out the educational experience is tailored to build trust within the community, and ultimately foster student success.
By focusing on Academics, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and Extracurriculars, the related policies will create a roadmap for a school district that not only adapts to the future, but also honors the legacy and values of Southern Macomb County.
