Education Leader focused on our students

In asking voters for another term on the school board, I will focus on my experience, accomplishments, and commitment to the students of Eastpointe, and acknowledge the fact that there is still work to be done.

Why am I asking for your vote?

Serving on our school board has been an honor and a responsibility that I have never taken for granted, or taken lightly.

I am asking for your support for another term because after being appointed following the death of a previous board member, I came to complete the task before me. While doing so, I came into my own as a leader in educational governance.

My Professional Background

I worked my way up in the DPS system from a volunteer parent, to noon-hour aid, service assistant, to secretary for 10 years, to being encouraged by the administration of that school to go forth and complete my degree. I then graduated with a teaching certificate from Madonna University. Next, I went on to attain by Master's Degree in Education from Wayne State University. I was employed working in two high schools, and as part of the administration teams in middle and elementary schools in my tenure before retiring after 30+ years.

My Personal Background

I am a mother, grandmother, great grand, great-great grand, and G.G.ma, as well as a Pastor in my church community.

Board Accomplishments

I believe with my total being that our students, families, teachers and communities deserves strong, thoughtful, and committed leadership. During my time on the board, I’ve worked to listen to our community, make responsible decisions, support our educators and keep students at the center of every conversation.

I’m proud of the progress we’ve made, but I also know there is more work ahead.  A second term would allow me to continue building on the progress, addressing the challenges facing our schools, and working toward a future where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

While on the board I have obtained levels of achievements, with certificates to prove these achievements. I worked within the MASB (Michigan Administration of School Board). I’m one of two trustees that insisted that other new members coming on the board would be given a welcome booklet that would explain and help with the language genre for quicker understanding that goes on with the current members on board.

I was on the committee that created a student board representative position to a ECS high schooler to represent students of all ages’ as a liaison between the schools, students, and board of education. Their position allows them to see how the board works, how decisions are made to support the student body, and hopefully it would encourage the students to get more involved in the district as well. This important role gives them an opportunity to sit on the board as representative for the entire student body.

I was recommend by my fellow ECS board trustees to serve as the Legislative Liaison to the Macomb County School Board Association's (MCSBA) Legislative Committee. I attend monthly meetings that deal with state and federal policy, and report back news and potential upcoming changes to our Eastpointe Community Schools Board of Education.

Candidate Commitments

I’m not asking for your vote simply because I want another term. I am asking because I care deeply about our schools, and I believe my experience, dedication, and commitment can continue to make a positive difference and a much better school system for Eastpointe.

My immediate focus is on students:

  • Involving their academic achievements

  • Involved in after school programs available for them

  • A collaboration between home and school

Focus on Parents:

  • Helping them understand the importance of working with the teachers for the benefits of the children

  • Advocate for the things needed for their children; getting an active LSO or PTA started immediate when school starts

  • Helping them to see how much power they have; with no children, there is no school

And finally, the Eastpointe Community:

With parents taking active participation in the lives of their children, parents take on more responsibilities helping and looking out for all ECS children.  Keeping their eyes and ears on the things that go on in our communities, working toward community centers for our children, so as you can see, you can’t support one without benefiting it all.

I would be honored to have your vote and the community support to continue serving as an Eastpointe Community Schools Board of Education Trustee.

Thank you for your trust and support!
